Sport: n & v. 1a. A game or competitive activity, esp. an outdoor one involving physical exertion eg. cricket, football, racing, hunting. 1b. such activities collectively. (the world of sport)
Is Piracy a sport?
According to the definition above, it very well might be. Piracy is a strenuous activity which takes place in the outdoor air. Although the body count tends to be a little higher than conventional sports (except dodgeball). it is doubtful, according to current sources, whether the pirates themselves actually make any money from their exploits.
History: Piracy, like many sports, is of relatively ancient origins.
Classification: Piracy is a combat sport. Do not attempt to commit piracy if not attired in the appropriate clothing. We recommend a large hat, a parrot, and a cutlass. Cutlasses may be worn between the teeth (but not parrots). Piracy is a team sport, not a spectator sport.
Sportsmanship: is sadly lacking in piracy of every kind. The pressures of competition or an obsession with individual achievement (see Treasure) can all work against enjoyment and fair play by participants.
Aim: The aim of piracy is to obtain treasure. This can be located by a number of means. The traditional methods of finding treasure are pillage, the capture of Ships and the discovery of Hidden Treasure (although this should not be relied upon).
Rules: There are no rules to piracy. They’re more like guidelines.
Music To Pillage To.
And so, we commence the fst.
1/Klaus Badelt-The Pirates Of The
Instrumental.
Some good atmospheric pirate-y music to set sail to
2/ The Jolly Rogers-The Fight (clip)
“We were a bunch o’ wild sea devils raisin’ the flag o’ black; sailin’ seas no pirate sailed and never lookin’ back.”
Piracy is a dangerous game, and the participants are not usually men of honour.
3/ Thea Gilmore-Pirate Moon
“Up in the midnight blue, that’s where I’m going to. I could just disappear. You cannot reach me here, up with the Pirate Moon.”
However, occasional pirates may surprise you by their honesty and intelligence. These are more than likely to wear thin moustaches. See ‘Flynn, Errol’, and also ‘Bloom,
4/The Jolly
“When word went up we answered the call, heartless bastards one and all.”
Pirating requires a strong sense of team spirit, although this is likely to dissolve when confronted with large amounts of Treasure.
6/Reliant K-We’re The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything
“And if you ask us to do anything, we’ll just tell you-we don’t do anything.”
Many pirates seem to do relatively little pirating. Pirate Warning: if you accept a letter of marque from the Government you are out of the game. You are now a Buccaneer. If you do no pirating at all, you are a Cruise Ship.
7/The Jolly Rogers-Curvy Girls (clip)
“I‘ve been to every corner of this great big world, and found there’s nothing better than a curvy, curvy girl…”
Pirates inhabit lawless pirate ports, where there reside loose women…
8/The Jolly Rogers-Black Jack Slim’s Cutthroat Inn (clip)
“Black Jack Slim’s Cutthroat Inn -is the dirtiest place I’ve ever been.”
..and much rum.
9/Great Big Sea-Drunken Sailor
“What do you do with a drunken sailor, early in the morning?”
This may lead to disciplinary problems within your team. Avoid this by judicious planning.
10/The Life Aquatic By Steve Zissou -We Call Them Pirates Out Here.
Instrumental.
Pirating goes by many names, but is basically the same sport wherever you end up. Pirates are welcome to participate in both local and international leagues.
11/Richard Marcus And Johnny Caruso-It’s Great To Be A Pirate
“It's great to be a pirate, and live a life of pleasure. We fight with swords and swing from ropes, and hunt for buried treasure.”
Many participants have found the sport of piracy both personally and financially rewarding..
12/Annwn-Red Queen
“The finest sight I've seen by far, from Port Royale to Malabar, in time of peace or time of war, is Anne, the pirate queen.”
Although piracy is not strictly an equal opportunities sport, women need not be dissuaded from participating. Females are said to be bad luck on board ship, but with care and cunning strategy you can ensure that the bad luck only happens to other people….
13/The Jolly Rogers-Lift Your Glasses High
“We will drink to those we miss and those we don’t as well .For toasting here is the excuse for us to drink like hell!”
Rum is essential at times for keeping up the morale of your team.
14/POTC 2 Official Movie Soundtrack-The Kraken
Instrumental
Piracy is a dangerous sport. Opponents may include other pirates, the Government, Davy Jones, walking Skeletons or giant Sea Monsters.Consider yourselves warned.
15/Tom Smith-Talk Like A Pirate Day
“Most days are like all of the others, go to work, come back home, watch TV. But, brother, if I had me druthers, I'd chuck it and head out to sea.”
Piracy is a sport everyone can take part in!
……But maybe we'll never get closer,
Than watchin' 'em on the big screen,
So here's to old Errol and Depp as Jack Sparrow,
And every damn one in between!
According to true pirating custom, many of the tracks on this fst are illegally downloaded. Which brings me to the extra track:
