The Cylons were created by Man. They rebelled. They evolved. They look and feel human. Some are programmed to think they are human. There are many copies. And they have a Plan.’

So, Battlestar Galactica.

A series about Big Issues. A series about honour, friendship, family, politics, war, humanity, and about being chased into the depths of space by a million pissed-off toasters.

Articles on the series (both the current re-imagining and the ’78 original) can be found at http://www.battlestargalactica.com/. For the two people who don't already know the storyline yet still care enough about the series to download this, a summary is included below. All others, please scroll down.

Battlestar Galactica is a tv series about robots (Cylons), created by the human race to act as labourers on colony planets. They rebel. They build more robots, robots that appear human. One of these cyborgs seduces a brilliant (but totally lacking in common sense) scientist and infiltrates the human interspace defence systems. And then the Cylons nuke the human colonies.
The survivors of the attack; a ragtag mix of civilian and military ships, set off into space in search of a mythical habitable world called ‘Earth.’. They are led by the Fleet ship Battlestar Galactica. On the way they face obstacles, because otherwise it wouldn’t be a very interesting show. Many, many obstacles. They run out of fuel, food and water, they are attacked by Cylon ships (every thirty three minutes) and they discover Cylon infiltrators aboard the ships.
The Cylons look like people, and they behave like people, but there are only eight ‘models.’ Sharon Valerii is one of these models, a ‘number Eight’, although she doesn’t know it when the series starts. Two of the Sharon models are major BG characters; one is killed aboard the Battlestar Galactica in season two, the second Sharon (with the first Sharon’s memories embedded) is assigned to Lieutenant Karl ‘Helo’ Agathon, a pilot who (for reasons that would take too long to explain here), is stranded on the former main human colony, Caprica. Sharon and Helo fall in love, and eventually have a child.

'Today was a peaceful day- nobody died.’ a Sharon Valerii fst

Bear McCreary: Season One Main Title (US version)(clip).
Instrumental
This one is self-explanatory.

Tomayasu Hotei: Battle Without Honour Or Humanity.
Instrumental.
Well, there’s honour. There’s even humanity (about fifty percent). A song for human vs. cylon space battles.

Mike Doughty: D’ you like robots?
I’ve been in show business since 1993, man. I know what I’m talking about.
None of the Battlestar Galactica crew likes robots much. Some of them change their minds later.

Calexico: Attack, el robot! Attack!
Instrumental
Music for waking up in your room soaking wet, with no idea what you’re doing there, a dozen detonators missing from the small arms locker and a lump of plastic explosive stuffed in your bag. Soon the ship’s entire water supply will be vented into space. Although you won’t be caught, you will feel terribly guilty.

Bright Eyes: I must belong somewhere.
Everything it must belong somewhere.
Cue six to seven hours of agonising whether or not you are a Cylon. Your friends will reassure you, tell you not to be silly, and (presumably) feel incredibly stupid when you pull out your gun and shoot the captain in the chest.

Dan Arborise: Everything you were taught to love is a lie.
So what do you do, what do you think, what do you say when you find….
Answer: you indulge in plaintive angst and soul-searching in between getting kicked around the brig by alcoholic second-in-commands. (Colonel Tigh, you know who I’m talking about)

Stars : He Lied About Death.
Keep watching your back. Killers always have killers on their track.
You are shot and killed aboard the Galactica by your ex-boyfriend‘s colleague, Cally. Game over.
(or is it?….)

Kraftwerk: It’s More Fun To Compute.
It’s more fun to compute
Your second copy is assigned to seduce a pilot in the Cylons’ ongoing quest to breed human/cylon hybrid babies (Cybrids?) You work through the whole kidnapped/pity scenario, forcing him to save your shapely butt from Cylon Centurions….

Jimmy Eat World: Robot Factory.
Our fortunes have been retrieved by humans who knew me
…..and then fall in love with him. That wasn’t quite what your superiors had in mind.

Naked Raven: Skin.
Quiet hands and punctured hearts…
The obligatory song about sex. Cylons’ spines glow red when they’re excited, but you must be good, because he doesn’t notice.

The White Stripes: You don’t know what love is (you just do what you’re told).
You just keep on repeating all those empty I love yous
Your pilot boyfriend realises that you are a Cylon. This puts a slight strain on your relationship. You return to the Galactica. They promptly throw you in the brig.

Sufjan Stevens: Super sexy woman.
She’s a superhuman girl..
..You gain a measure of trust by interfacing with the Galactica computer systems to fight off a virus. The Galactica crew thank you, and then steal your Cybrid baby.

The Flaming Lips: Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots.
Her name is Yoshimi….she’s a black belt in karate..
You marry your pilot, regain Captain Adama’s trust, and serve in the Fleet again. Cylons are not pink, but the song is worth it.

Bear McCreary: The Shape Of Things To Come (clip).
Instrumental
As the second series draws to a close, there are many questions. Is your Cybrid really dead? Will Cylons and humans ever coexist in peace? Will life ever get easier for the Galactica crew? Who does your hair and makeup? Do not worry. All will be explained in season Three.

Easter Egg:

Lance Miller: Wolf Driven Robots Of The Northwest Coast
Instrumental
The audio is the output from a computer program written to simulate robots with wolf mental processes. Listen to it once for the experience, then delete it from your hard drive.

Author's Note: As I’m a huge geek, this FST mostly contains songs about robots, about love, and about robots in love. The title quote is from Making Light (http://nielsenhayden.com/makinglight/).I’m getting this in fast, before somebody else steals all my robot songs.

Enjoy.
